Smooth Jazz and More has created a GoFundMe account in an effort to help keep the Internet radio station on the air.
The station experienced a drastic drop in revenue in the last year with our blogs. “Our sources for revenue (Blogsvertise and CafePress) hasn’t provided enough funds in order to keep our internet radio station solvent.”, said Mike James, internet radio broadcaster for the Live365 station. “Through the help of a generous donor, we are able to continue uninterrupted broadcasts through November, 2015. But after that time, the internet radio station will need help with funding. Thus, the creation of our GoFundMe campaign.”
GoFundMe is a crowdfunding platform that allows people to raise money for events ranging from life events such as celebrations and graduations to challenging circumstances like accidents and illnesses. GoFundMe generates revenue by automatically deducting an 8% fee from each donation users receive. If the user receives no donations, then no charge is made. Recently, the site has be criticized for accepting questionable campaigns. Most notably, supporters of Darren Wilson started a GoFundMe campaign to help with his legal defense fund. They were able to raise over $300,000 dollars.
“My goal is not only to secure funding past November, 2015; but to help expand our radio station’s outreach, ” said Mike James, internet radio broadcaster on the Live365 station. “It’s been my goal to put our station on iTunes, TuneIn and any other platform out there. It takes money and money is something we don’t have right now.”
