Jesus Christ himself called out profiteers, who exploited his church for monetary gain.
In Matthew 21:12-13, Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’”
On Monday, the Supreme Court basically gave Hobby Lobby the legal right to their own “den of robbers”, by giving them the right to deny health benefits to women, all in the name of profit and under the guise of “religious freedom.”
What Hobby Lobby is doing is not “Christ-like”. This is a company that makes millions of dollars by purchasing and selling items it buys from China, a country who forces its women to undergo abortions for it’s “one-child only” policy. Hobby Lobby also invests in 401k companies that make birth contraception.
So much for Hobby Lobby being pro-life.
“There are climbers in the church. There are a lot of them! People who follow Jesus for money, try to profit from the parish, the diocese, the Christian community, the hospital, the college,…We have known a lot of good Catholics, good Christians … And then we discover that they have been carrying out somewhat shady dealings. They were real profiteers and they made a lot of money.”
If you really want to do some damage to Hobby Lobby, you can do it in the pocketbook. Don’t do business, don’t patronize, don’t advertise with them. When the $$$$ begins to run out, then you’ll see some real change in the their tune.
(Don’t tell me about, “boycotts only hurt the workers.” That’s a bullshit cop-out! We need to do better to create real jobs with real benefits, and not jobs that wind up as entry-level, minimum wage jobs. America thrived with a strong middle class in the past. We can to so now!)
