NBC’s Bob Costas Runs Into a Tumultuous Shit Storm Called, "The NRA"

NBC sportscaster Bob Costas made a bold comment during halftime of Sunday Night Football’s telecast about Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher’s murder-suicide case.  Costas used the words of Fox Sports columnist Jason Whitlock in his commentary.
Among his comments, he replied, “Sure, Jovan Belcher could have used any number of weapons to kill his girlfriend Kassandra Perkins. But having a gun in the house sure made it a hell of a lot easier.”
Full comments below.

Belcher shot and killed Perkins, the mother of his 3-month-old daughter, on Saturday morning, then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and committed suicide in the parking lot of the team’s practice facility in front of his coach and general manager.
Predictably, right-wing groups have been up in arms overt Costas comments, mostly on social media.  The most visible has been the National Rifle Association, who has called on NBC to fire Costas who have been critical of the host for using the broadcast to express his personal views on a program meant for entertainment.  Faux News has also weighed in on the controversy, using its airwaves to garner support for the gun lobby.
It’s pretty snide for the same fools to claim the 2nd amendment, won’t support the 1st amendment. They always seem to “pick and choose” what parts of the constitution to follow.  Does that sound familiar?  It’s the same way with the bible.
Costas needed to say what was very much needed.  The readily availability of guns is destroying the country and there needs to be accountability.  More Americans need to have the courage to speak out against gun violence.  The problem is, the gun lobby doesn’t want that message publicized for fear of losing.  For them, this is a game that they stand to lose badly.
This isn’t a game. Not by a longshot!
