Last November started a firestorm of disastrous proportions for the middle class and working families. The GOP made promises of concentrating on getting jobs back. It was a classic “bait-and-switch”, as the focus changed once they sworn into office. We’re now seeing the consequences of ignorance and apathy play out in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio and the House of Representatives.
Those who stood on the sidelines and didn’t vote in the last elections should be held accountable for making it happen.
I’ve posted a short poem on the consequences of not voting. Thanks to my friend and former work colleague, Bob in Syracuse for these words of wisdom…and warning!
Where silence gets you…
A few years ago, you were too cool to be heard.
A few years later, you didn’t want certain people to hear you.
Last month, you lied when others asked if you contributed.
A few weeks ago, you thought perhaps later you’d add your voice to the fray and you thought about how having done it might have made you feel closer to your peers and warm inside.
Today, you ran out and discovered that your silence bought those who now reign over you the rights you failed to stand for to begin with.
If not now, then, when?
