In Gainsville, Florida a “church” called the Dove World Ourteach Center was denied a city permit to burn the Koran on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
According to their website, the group posted a sign on their lawn, proclaiming that Islam, “…is of the devil.” Their purpose is “…to expose Islam for what it is…a violent and oppressive religion that is trying to mascarade itself as a religion of peace, seeking to deceive our society.”
In the case of this Dove World Outreach Center, they are using Islam for their own personal agenda. The old saying, “What Would Jesus Do?”, comes into play! Would he sanction burning a holy book such as the Koran?
From what I was taught, the word Christian means, “Christ Like”. Jesus never burned any of the writing of others. Nor did he asked for vengeance to those who nailed him to the cross. In fact, he preached believing in “Him”, and loving your neighbor as yourself. He also said not to argue doctrine.
If we resort to burning what we don’t believe instead of sharing our belief’s in a loving manor, then we have stepped away from the very teachings of Christ.
This is happening in Christianity far too often, nowadays!
