The Face of Health Care Reform!

I sincerely wonder what people who are against health care reform think about. I’ve said time and time again that those who are against it have never been in a situation where their own health problems would shatter their own lives. It takes someone you know to change your mentality on the subject.

As I wrote on this blog previously, over 60% percent of families have declared bankruptcy due to medical expenses. Please read.
There are millions of people across the United States who face the possibility of either losing their health insurance, or not having enough to cover medical expenses. Here is one such person.

Benita Thompson is a leader with 1199 SEIU. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and has been going through treatments. Though she has health insurance, her insurance was capped out and now has to pay out of pocket. Her friends and co-workers are throwing this benefit in order to help her defray the cost of her treatment.

If you’re in the Syracuse area, here is where the benefit takes place.

Date: Saturday, October 24, 2009
Time: 2:00pm – 6:00pm
Location: Pensabene’s Casa Grande
Street: 135 State Fair Blvd.
City/Town: Syracuse, New York

If you can’t go, donations will be accepted – either to raffle off, or just for her to defray the cost of her treatment.
