If I remember well, wasn’t it Attorney General Eric Holder that once said that when it comes to race relations, he said that the United States were, “a nation of cowards?”
Here’s a portion of his statements given in February, 2009.
“Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot in things racial, we have always been, and we, I believe, continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards.”
“Though race-related issues continue to occupy a significant portion of our political discussion, and though there remain many unresolved racial issues in this nation, we, average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about things racial.”
“This is truly sad. Given all that we as a nation went through during the civil rights struggle, it is hard for me to accept that the result of those efforts was to create an America that is more prosperous, more positively race-conscious, and yet is voluntarily socially segregated.”
Fast forward to this week when former President Jimmy Carter made a pretty good analogy of the conduct between right-wing nut jobs and President Obama.
“I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man,” Carter told NBC News’ Brian Williams in an interview.
The White House distanced themselves from his statement.
Analysis – Despite the election of a black president, there are still divides when it comes to race in America. But like the gutless cowards that they are, people won’t make their true ambitions clear. They tend to hide behind the shadows and state their views non-chalantly through poisoned mouthpieces, such as Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck.
They’ll hold “tea parties” and “protests”, sprinkled with racist signs and innuendo stating the obvious. President Carter is just stating the obvious. There are people in America who are having a hard time dealing with a black man who was elected as the leader of the free world. Southern states, in particular, are clearly affected by this. (The sad part is that these people are supposed to be Christians! Ain’t that sick?)
Actions like interrupting by South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson would not have happened if the roles were reversed. Sadly, the behavior of these so-called “Christians” can only get worse as President Obama continues to dismantle the walls of hate and put together a better life for all Americans…despite what color you are!
Cowards? Try Gutless Cowards!!
