The “people in charge” in this story get my nomination for the “asshole of the year” award.
A high school senior in Maine had his high school diploma taken away from him during graduation.
The student walked on stage to receive his diploma when his name was called and subsequently blew a kiss to his family. The school administrator sent the student back to his seat, without his diploma.
Administrators feel they were just enforcing the rules that students agreed to. At a meeting following the debacle, the school superintendent explained, “if a student doesn’t adhere to the expectations, then the consequences are clearly spelled out.”
This is precisely why I didn’t enjoy high school. Administrators were the “gestapo” type, enforcing ridiculous rules and in this case, ruining what was supposed to be a memorable moment.
Talk about twisted priorities?
