The Chinese government has to wonder what to do about their bad seed cousin, the North Koreans.
For more than 60 years, they’ve been their allies during the Korean conflict. You would think that they would be able to take advantage of Chinese prosperity. But because of their own paranoia, headed by their illustrious leader, Kim Jong-il, they’ve managed to alienate themselves into a cocoon.
For the last 8 years, the North Koreans have traveled on a path of nuclear annihilation, testing short and long range missiles and threatening anyone who decides to disrupt their goals. Now, with the UN security council agreeing on sanctions, the North Korean government announced they would turn the Korean penninsula from a DMZ (De-Militarized Zone) into a NHZ (Nuclear Holocaust zone).
Before anything worse happens, I think you’re going to see Beijing get involved by either forcing the North Koreans to stand down or forcing Kim Jong-il and his government out.
The last thing the Chinese government needs is a crisis on their doorstep. They’ve built too much to lose it all because of a wacked out cousin!
