Are Watches Going Out of Style?

A few years ago, we did a story on watch sales and how they’re not keeping with the pace of the newer generation.

It was pretty common to see advertisements for watches on television at least once every day. Who could forget those famous Timex watch commercials? The ads emphasized the watch’s durability by putting them through “torture tests”, such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor with the voice of former NBC new anchor, John Cameron Swayze saying the slogan, “Timex…it takes a licking and keeps on ticking.” (See vintage commercial below!)

Nowadays, more and more young people are not using watches in their everyday activities. This is because many of them carry cell phones and don’t find the need for watches.

Watch makers are doing their best to make wearing watches the “in” thing to have again. A website called, “TheWatchery.com” has some of the most luxurious watches on the market today.

One watch I particularly liked was this Movado Junior Sport Men’s Chronograph Stainless Steel Silver Dial Watch.

Originally sold for $1,195 dollars, the website is selling it on sale for $598 dollars, that’s half off the list price.

Brand names such as Tag Heuer & Cartier are just a few of the other luxury watches featured on the website.

Whether its going on the town or working out, consider wearing a watch that suits your needs.
