Dev Patel and Freida Pinto are the star-crossed lovers in the film, “Slumdog Millionaire”. The movie came out of nowhere to win the top prize at the 81st Academy Awards on Sunday. (FOX)
“Slumdog Millionaire”, a movie that slipped under the radar last year, took 8 of 10 of its nominations and virtually swept last night’s Academy Awards.
This is a monumental achievement considering how much the film cost to make ($15 million) and the problems that almost prevented the movie from being released.
The film’s original distributor, Warner Independent, folded. It was rescued from a direct-to-video destiny when Fox Searchlight stepped in to release the film.
It proves that any movie, no matter how small, can win an Oscar. It all comes down to one thing, the story.
I also made a monumental achievement of my own. For the first time, I went a perfect 6-0 in the top categories!
