Another Smooth Jazz FM Radio Station Bites The Dust!

Once again, the “city of brotherly love” is without a smooth jazz FM radio station.

WJJZ, Philadelphia’s legendary smooth jazz FM radio station went off the air on Friday and was replaced with yet, another AC format.

WJJZ originally aired on 106.1 on the FM dial and ran for nearly 13 years until Clear Channel Radio abandoned the format in August, 2006.

Greater Media picked up the format in November, 2006 and moved the frequency and call letters to 97.5 in the Philly suburbs.

The change didn’t translate into suitable ratings.

Another sad fact of the way the radio industry has gone downhill when it comes to the smooth jazz format on FM radio.
